Why you can afford a summer holiday this year
'Savvy' Brits find new ways to afford their summer holiday
With Brits reluctant to give up their annual summer break, holidaymakers have been forced into finding new ways to stretch their pounds further. Due to the weakening pound against the Euro, travel agents have reported a surge in requests for all inclusive deals, with shrewd Brits recognising the value of not having to pay over the odds for food and drink once in their resort. This has led to Voyager Travel Direct seeing a 115% increase in bookings for all inclusive holidays compared with the same period last year.
Verity Eyre, General Manager of Voyager Travel Direct, said holiday sales have remained strong, despite increases in the costs of food, housing, transport and taxes.
"With people concerned about the credit crunch, holidaymakers are looking to save as much money as possible. With some excellent all inclusive deals around, people can pay one price and not have to worry about additional costs once they have left the country"
Likewise, Eastern European and Long Haul destinations were benefiting from fears about the Euro. With people becoming increasingly aware of their holiday spending, destinations outside of the Euro-zone such as Turkey, Bulgaria, Croatia, Egypt, Morocco and the USA have grown in popularity thanks to their more favourable rate of exchange. This is shown in Voyager Travel Direct's figures for this year, which show a 128% increase in holidaymakers opting for a non-EU holiday.
"People have become savvy with regards their holiday spending and are looking to control their budget more carefully. We've seen people looking to squeeze the value out of their holidays by choosing all inclusive holidays and a wider range of destinations, such as Eastern Europe and Egypt" says Verity.
