BULGARIA: The Upcoming Place for a Family Holiday

Marie White took her family to Golden Sands  in Bulgaria. TRAVELISTA has a chat with her to out more…….

First of all, could you tell us how many people there were travelling in your party and when you travelled to Bulgaria on Holiday?

We travelled in May and there were 2 adults and 1 child in the party.

Why did you choose Bulgaria for your family holiday and why Golden Sands in particular?

I chose Bulgaria because it was somewhere that had never appealed to me but so many people had told me how great it was that I wanted to find out for myself. I chose Golden Sands in particular, as I knew it was a family orientated resort.

How did you spend a typical day on holiday?

A typical day was spent on the beach or around the pool.

And how did you spend your evenings?

In the evening we would go back to the hotel for a shower and change and have our evening meal in the hotel. Then we would wander around the local shops and have a couple of drinks in the nearby bars. The bars were good for children, there were often games for them to get involved in.

Why do you think Golden Sands is a good destination for a family holiday?

Yes there were loads of things for families. There were lots of things like little bunji's and rides for the children to go on. There were lots of little kiddies toyshops selling Bulgarian toys. There was a nightly street market which was quite nice to wander around. It's a very family orientated resort.

What age children do you think Golden Sands is best suited to?

I would say it's best suited to children under 12-13 years old.

How much did the holiday cost and what did you get for your money?

The holiday cost around £900 for 2 adults and 1 child staying in a four star hotel, half board for 10 nights.

Once you were in Bulgaria, did you find things in resort to be value for money?

Yes, very good value for money. Drinks were very, very cheap.  Food and snack bars were really drink. It was about 20p for a soft drink and 50-80p for a pint of beer.

What was the weather like?

We had a couple of overcast days but the rest of the time it was sunny and hot. But in the evening, it was quite cool and you needed a jacket. I think the best time to go would be July and August as it would be warmer in the evenings.

What was the worst thing about Golden Sands?

It's well known that prostitiution is rife in Bulgaria. However, it is possible to avoid these areas and it didn't impact on our holiday at all.

What was the best thing about Golden Sands?

The beaches are absolutely gorgeous - lovely, wide sandy beaches. There is loads for the kids to do. Wherever there is a bar area there will be bouncy castles, crazy golf or small fairground rides such as a little train running round a track. Set back from the beach, there are little pool areas with fountains in them that you can use. I was really surprised - it's a pretty resort and its very clean. The standard of the hotels was very good aswell.

Would you travel to Bulgaria again and would you recommend it to others?

Yes definitely on both counts.
